Worlds first look at BitClamp

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

So here it is, your first chance to see BitClamp.
I have given the honour to Chris Marshall, who has been truly indispensable throughout the production of BitClamp, even though he has no official title at Crimson Sky.
The preview is on his blog.
Enjoy :-)

Leopard

Just thought I better add.
BitClamp is Leopard ready.

AppleScript

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

Hey guys,
Just to let you know, Im working on making BitClamp really AppleScriptable, as in every aspect of the app.
It will probably not make it into 1.0 but Im aiming for it to make an appearance in 1.1 and more function will be added from then on.
This of course is if I have no major issues.
This is number 2 on the list of features Im working on bringing to BitClamp ASAP, number 1 being Windows support. If you feel strongly that you would like it the other way round, comment and let me know.
Details of the launch plans and a nice discount are to follow soon. Stay posted.

November 1st

Monday, October 15th, 2007

Its now official BitClamp will launch on November 1st. Not sure what time (probably 11.50pm ;-) ) but you will be able to get your hands on it then.
More excitingly: we have quite a launch deal planned. I can’t reveal everything yet but we have been in talks with a majorish mac promoter and it will involve a 50% discount on the usual $20. Yes, initially BitClamp will be yours for $10 with all minor upgrades inclusive. (I will try and fix it so you only pay for an increment of a major version - ie 1.0 to 2.0).
Back to testing :-)

MacFanatic.net + BitClamp update (of course)

Friday, October 12th, 2007

Hey guys,
Sorry to interrupt your regularly scheduled updates of BitClamp but our good friend Matthew Brewer over at MacFanatic has got a post on the blog asking if there is anyone out there who can give some of their time to blog, moderate the forums and podcast.
The site has a huge amount of potential, and it could be a great way to get into blogging and podcasting. Some of you may or may not know that I blog for MacApper and AppsForMacs as well as having a weekly segment on The Mac Review Cast .
I started by just enjoying writing for AppsForMacs, and now Im paid for it! So you never know where it could take you, and Im dying to see what that site could be like with a great team of writers.
So head over here for details and to get in touch with Matt (who is a great guy by the way :D ).

Now to reward your patience:
We have a build of BitClamp going into final testing now and were aiming for a 1st November launch. Now that date is not “official” yet as the site is yet to be completed, but as soon as it is I will update the front page to reflect it and of course blog it.
Enjoy!

Neat BitClamp Feature Number 2 - “Covert Files”

Monday, October 8th, 2007

Ok, so time for another feature preview.
This one is really quite handy. BitClamp has no real file type as such. Why?! Well, say someone knows you have an important file (that they want) that is encrypted on your hard-drive, and they think they can guess the password.
Ok so, if they know your password, most of your security is going to be gone. If they can find the file. So if there was a BitClamp extension, all they would have to do would be to search for the extension and boom, there would be your file.
So, BitClamp files can be created with any extension and yet still recognise when an encrypted file is dropped on it, to decrypt it.
We have nick-named this feature “covert files”. :D

Btw - I think Ive settled on a 1.0 build. Now this is an app very much in development. In order to get it out there I had to cut out some features that I really want in there, so if you feel BitClamp isn’t really feature complete, don’t worry there are a tonne of features I plan to include.

Contact Form Woes

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

I must apologise,
The php code on our contact form has decided to misbehave. A lot of you asked questions, which I duly replied to. The problem was I (without looking) replied to my mailserver, and all the message failures have just come through.
I do apologise - a few of you asked questions and I have no emails to respond to.
Please e-mail me at danny [at] crimsonskysoftware[dot] com so I have your emails and can reply.
Thanks guys - will let you know when we fix the issue.

Neat BitClamp Feature Number 1

Monday, October 1st, 2007

Ok so its not really a feature but its damn neat!
Alongside the fully featured BitClamp program there will be a free decryptor up for download on the site. Yep, that means you can send your encrypted files to anyone and they can decrypt it for free. Of course there will be a nice screen at the end telling them where they can get BitClamp and what it does.
Of course BitClamp - the full version decrypts as-well.
This free decryptor will probably also be launched on Windows ahead of the full version.
I personally think this is pretty neat and should make BitClamp that bit more useful. Of course to decrypt your files they need to have the password - im afraid thats your department :D .
By the way - Im open to suggestions for what you want to see for features, they may not appear in 1.0 but I will try my best to work them in. This product is all about the users.
